The Hire Process

Prior to ordering

When considering using ourselves please ensure that the truck mount you wish to use will be adequate both in terms of the maximum working height you need along with the maximum outreach required and consult our spec sheets or Smart Recommendation to clarify this.
Also bear in mind what you will need to take with you both to travel to site (do you need your own van to carry your materials and tools as well as our truck, which has limited storage capacities) and to work within the basket of the truck mount, see Safe Working Loads.
Additionally, when considering a machine you require please consider site specific issues including access to site:

  • ground conditions where working including gradients
  • adequate ventilation if working internally
  • overhead obstructions including powerlines and
  • any site permission you may need to work (including full or partial road closures)

It’s worth checking with the end client if there are site specific regulations you must adhere to including on-site Health & Safety Inductions and whether they stipulate that users of truck mounts need IPAF certification. Though we regret that we cannot provide site surveys as a matter of course we will be more than happy to assist you as much as we can if you contact our hire desk on 0871 871 9292.

Ordering

To place an order, contact us to check on availability (3-4 days notice recommended to avoid disappointment).  To confirm placing an order, smart require written confirmation either by fax, e-mail (sales@smartplatforms.co.uk) or on our Web site.

Hiring Process

Please note that all hires are covered under the Terms & Conditions of the Construction Plant-Hire Association (a full copy is available on request).

Platforms can be picked up from 8.00am (excluding PM Collects) and must be returned no later than 5.00pm (excepting AM Returns).

To use our platforms, they must be fully insured and this includes both driving and boom operation. This can be covered either by placing on your own fleet insurance policy (if applicable) or on our Collision Damage Waiver.

Day of Hire

Please be mindful of the weather and if you feel that your hire will be impaired then don’t hesitate to contact as soon as you can (see our Cancellation Policy).

Self Drive

If you are choosing the self drive collect/return option then please allow adequate travel time to and from our depot to site to get as much time as you need on site.

If you are using our Collision Damage Waiver, then please remember to bring both parts of your driving licence with you (or if you have an older single piece licence then bring this) unless you have pre-authorised your licence with us in advance. You can do this by faxing it through to us the day before.

If you are using your own Fleet Insurance that is on an exception stated basis, then please remember to get our truck mount’s details that you’re hiring from us.

When arriving at our depot you are free to park your own vehicle in our secured parking areas for the duration of the hire.

Our hire desk will take you through your order efficiently and will provide you with a quick platform specific familiarisation that will normally take around 10-20 minutes.

When returning the machine please allow adequate time to get back to the depot and our hire staff will quickly take you through an off hire to clarify the machine’s safe return.

Delivery

Your machine will be dropped off and the Smart operative will ensure that your staff will be familiarised with the truck mount and all literature will be signed off prior to your usage.

Operated

The operator will arrive on site (allowing travel time) and will conduct a quick risk assessment that must be signed before the hire can proceed.
